Worldbuilding Fantasy Map Update: Lunaaris, Southern Orvainor

Lunaaris, Southern Orvainor

This week’s region for Worldbuilding Wednesday is Lunaaris! It is probably the most important place in Blood of the Banshee and definitely the biggest part of Volume One.

Lunaaris is a darker region known for deeper, darker and forbidden magics, as well as forbidden swamps and paths that really make you question why anyone would want to live there at all really.

This is where the story begins from Zaras’s perspective in Nocturnis. He has to travel to the capital by foot, and yeah… it’s not great. It’s rather grim, actually.

This is the second draft of my Lunaaris to add rivers and mountains like last week’s Sanctaris. On my to-do list is to name the rivers, lakes, etc, properly when I get the time. That’ll likely come once I’m more settled on the lore in other areas and a few more tweaks of language.

Capital City

Lunaaris – Capital of darker magics. Specialise in darker alchemy studies and artefact retrieving as well.

Towns

Nocturnis – a town of markets, guilds and thieves. Has an acceptance of riot rotation.
Mordhian Porthe – A heavily fortified town on the border of Lunaaris and is guarded by mercenaries and shadow mages. It is the main entrance to the region and controls who is allowed to enter.
Scathevarde – a town built on the top of ancient runes. Serves as headquarters for a lot of guilds, bounty hunters and assassins for hire.

Villages

Ebenferon – is full of dark alleyways, and lights burn out quickly. Rumoured to be haunted. It’s just a bit swampy, really.
Morne Rill – a village near a glimmering river. Has a ferry every two days to Ravornith Hollith.
Sirysp Grauve – a secluded village where the residents speak in whispers and have a lot of missing visitors. Has a decent library.
Sangver Myro – A village steeped in blood magic. It used to be ‘Light Moor’.
Midnox Endir – a village in perpetual darkness. Runes at the front gate are broken, making the surrounding darkness more susceptible to grabbing those who stray off the path than usual.
Scathe Vioil – a crossroads village that has a lot of Bieriscats. One of few places that truly respects travellers.
Noertorvne – a village famous for its poisons and birthplace of the first line.
Scatho Glien – a village in the dense woods. It is mainly known for its shadow mages that can blend into the environment.
Ravornith Hollith – a village that often has an abnormal amount of ravens flocking in the area. Out of all the villages, it has the most stationed Valariels.
Lunaarcathe – a village known for its kinder blessings to lunar magic. This once belonged to Sanctaris.
Khautlyth  – a village built around an ancient holy crypt between Sanctaris and Lunaaris. Residents were consumed, and an unknown being currently inhabits the area.

I’m pretty certain the placements on this map won’t change over time, but if they do, it’ll be part of another draft in the future. I need to do a light tweak on names, though I think I need to look at my language before I touch that.
