Aekinthar, Northern Viridorn

It’s been a little while since I shared a map for Worldbuilding Wednesday, so this week I’m posting the second draft of Aekinthar in northern Viridorn.

I’d gone quiet on maps for a bit due to time, and when a slot finally opened up… my Wacom had vanished. I really didn’t want to buy a new one, but we caved, ordered a replacement, and of course found the original straight after.

I’ll share the remaining second‑draft maps (three left) and then, I’m contemplating refocusing on Lunaaris and Sanctaris in a lot more detail than I’ve previously shared. I might experiment with making these with different materials. I’ll do my research first.

Aekinthar is the mountainous north of Viridorn, and it has the most frequent dragon sightings. Humans and orcs are more common here than elves. The region dampens elven channelling. Its people are known for being patient, steadfast and loyal. Many caves hold large uncut gems used to store magic or mint coins.

The descriptions below are ever-so-slightly updated.

Capital City

Aekinthar – Geomancers drew stone from the earth to shape Aekinthar City. They’ve formed homes, halls and pathways, surfaces veined like marble from the casting. Aekinthar is home to Elisar’s mint.

Towns

Mossivaehl – Nestled within a forested valley lies Mossivaehl, where fertile soil breathes magic and moss-covered cottages cluster along winding paths. Soft curls of smoke drift from stone chimneys that mix with the evergreen scent of the woods. Earth mages tend to the land, ensuring harvests are always rich and abundant, and decay never reaches the roots.

Riutthar – Encircling the majestic base of a colossal ancient tree, Riutthar rises in harmony with nature. Intricate bridges of woven bark and living vines connect platforms spiralling upward around the immense trunk. The people say pressing one’s ear to the bark reveals the murmuring voices of those who shaped the world.

Caxim Grauve – Revered by druids and geomancers, Caxim Grauve rests amid towering stone monoliths and ancient forests. Circles of standing stones glow under moonlight, maintaining ancient protective spells that safeguard the boundary of the mortal realm.

Villages

Braithenrygsta – Hidden between two high ridges shrouded in bracken and ferns, Braithenrygsta is almost swallowed by the wild greenery. Cottages wear wildflowers as crowns, their roofs blending with the underbrush. Here, earth mages craft protective wards of living vines that guard the village from intrusion.

Sondveld – Sondveld is a peaceful farming village whose fields thrive under pulses of earth magic. Protective stones, etched with deep emerald runes, mark every field’s edge, safeguarding crops and enhancing fertility.

Emperviri – A mysterious sanctuary where the trees retain their lush leaves even amid harsh winter. Villagers believe sacred underground springs sustain their unfading greenery, and healers pilgrimage from afar for the regenerative soil beneath these eternal trees.

Tibriforl – Tibriforl nestles alongside a shimmering waterfall, tucked within dense woodland. The waterfall’s endless, murmuring cascade harmonises with the pulse of the earth below. Villagers fashion chimes from polished stones, mirroring the waterfall’s melody to preserve peace and balance.

Riuttuaoith – Known for its fantastical bounty of enormous mushrooms and gourds flourishing amongst thick roots. The air is rich with earthy scents of damp growth, illuminated by lanterns set within hollowed fungi stems that radiate an emerald glow.

Lohtiscathe – Lohtiscathe remains hidden beneath a dense canopy, sunlight filtering down as droplets of gold. Old trees bear ancient protective runes, sheltering the village and safeguarding it from wandering spirits.

Kortmir – By the banks of an enchanted lake, Kortmir sits in mystical tranquillity, where the crystal-clear waters reflect starlit skies even under dense cloud cover. Here, apprentices of earth and water magic together create bridges of hardened reeds and silt.

Fisslerux – Surrounded by expansive fields of purple-thistled plants, Fisslerux is famed for protective charms, tinctures, and vibrant dyes harvested from its thorny blooms. Smoke from burning thistle is believed to drive away lingering ghosts and restless spirits.

Cralariut – Carved into sheer cliff-faces, Cralariut thrives high in the mountains. Here, geomancers raise barriers to guard the village against rockfalls and landslides. The mountain itself bears intricate, glowing sigils etched into rock.

Mardrill – Set atop expansive plains of mud and clay, Mardrill is a village famed for its artisan craftsmanship. Skilled residents inscribe magical patterns in wet earth, transforming clay into hardened bricks and finely-crafted pottery without the need for fire.

Muresond – Muresond sits in marshy lands. Villagers pray to the marsh before each harvest, while enchanted boots ensure they never sink beneath the swamp’s surface. While it looks nicer than the southern Lunaaris swamps, it is deadlier.

As with the last map, I’ll keep tweaking names. I need to spend more time with the language.
