✨📚 5/5 Stars! 📚✨
Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson – Book Two of The Stormlight Archive.
SPOILERS AHEAD!
I felt connected to this story immediately, and I adored every chapter. Like THE WAY OF KINGS, despite the book’s massive size, the storyline was so intriguing that I barely noticed.
There was a lot more world-building than in the first book. It wasn’t overwhelming and fit in nicely with the pace. I enjoyed reading more about the Cosmere universe, and I was surprised with a memory like mine that I was able to keep track.
It is strange because, despite the story being as big as it is, it still feels like there was more than what I imagine Brandon Sanderson was happy about cutting out. That being said, there is still plenty of detail!
The Characters
Pattern: I adored Pattern! I loved how he starts like a toddler, walking and making the odd noise here and there, and then progressing. I am worried about what the future will hold for Pattern, though. Strangely, there wasn’t direct communication between him and Syl, but maybe it will be explained or seen further into the series.
Jasnah: When I read that chapter about her death, I was in utter denial until near the end of the book. When so much had happened and she still hadn’t returned, I started to accept that she might not return. I was so, so relieved at the end!
Shallan: It felt it was bordering on ridiculous with the amount of skills she achieved in a short time at seventeen. That being said, I feel like the more I read, the more justified it was in the end.
Dalinar: There wasn’t as much as him as there was in The Way of Kings, but what was there was enjoyable to read. While his spren reveal was an extraordinary moment, I worry about how this will read in the future of the series.
Kaladin: I love him. He’s been through so much, and I hope he gets the happiness he deserves. The scenes about Syl were devastating, and his character progression has been a joy to read so far. The approach has been careful, and I hope it stays this way. His scenes as part of the duel with Adolin were perfect, and his fights with Szeth were incredible!
Adolin: He was the absolute star of the show in this one for more reasons than one. He is still a bit sleazy, but Shallen seems to be helping with that. The duel scene was nothing short of epic between him and Kaladin. As much as I loved it, nothing was more satisfying than what he did to Sadeas. It was so unexpected, but I am relieved that Brandon Sanderson wasn’t going to drag that out (as far as I know – I’m guessing there’ll be repercussions, at least!).
Overall, there were some amazing moments in this story that I don’t want to spoil for anyone. It is a fantastic read, and I highly recommend the first two books of The Stormlight Archive so far!
